A true classic car buff, Richard Nash never imagined that he would be restoring 1960s era travel trailers. His wife, Vicky brought home the first vintage trailer in 2005 and so the obsession began. Four trailers have made their way to the Nash driveway. The fully rebuilt 1962 Shasta Airflyte is the gem of the collection.

If not purchased for $ 100 by the Nashes, the 13 foot 1962 Shasta?s fate was sure to be the local dump. A flat tire, broken jack, dilapidated interior, split seams, leaking roof, damaged siding were just a few of the problems to deal with. But being the visionaries that they are, this Colorado couple could see the true potential. A custom home-builder by trade, Richard knows construction. So the demolition began and every inch was stripped down to the frame. The original parts were used as a template to painstakingly rebuild nearly every piece from the ground up. Much of the trim, hardware, and glass was salvaged and reused. A beautiful ash wood, coated with about 5 gallons of amber shellac was used for the interior walls, ceiling and cabinetry. Shiny new aluminum cut to the exact dimensions adorn the roof and side panels. The coveted original silver wings proudly fly on the back.

Vicky served as Creative Director, selecting the red, silver, white and black color scheme. A trip to the paint shop highlighted the famous Z pattern on the exterior. A diner theme carries through the interior space. Cool retro-looking fabric was selected for the cushions and coordinating curtains. Formica countertops and tables feature a boomerang pattern which complements the black-and-white checkerboard floor.

Nine months (and $ 10,000 in materials) later, the completed 1962 made its debut. Reminiscent of a peppermint stick, she was named Candy. Candy has made many appearances at a variety of classic car shows and vintage travel trailer rallies in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. Sometimes she is accompanied by collector cars like a 1968 Ford Mustang. A true show-stopper, Candy won the Ladies? Choice Award and also the People?s Choice Award in respective years at the Grand River Classic Car Show in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She was also pictured on the front page of the Moab Times Independent newspaper.

To complete the ensemble, Richard located a 1961 Ford Galaxy Sunliner convertible which he envisioned pulling the vintage camper. This full restoration included an engine and transmission overhaul, brakes, shocks, black-and-white upholstery, fresh chrome, a new soft top, a matching paint job in Ford Candy Apple Red, and a new hitch with electronic brake control.

?When we drive around with the 1962 Shasta, people smile and give us the ?thumbs up? signal all the time. Everyone wants to know what year it is and what it looks like inside,? says Richard.

This hobby began when Vicky read a magazine article about Sisters On The Fly, a group of women who travel around the country together in antique trailers painted with colorful murals. ?I thought that looked like so much fun. And I didn?t even camp!? exclaims Vicky. So she started searching for a trailer and found a 1970 Shasta hunting trailer with camouflage curtains for sale in Denver. Fortunately, Richard was a good sport and agreed to help fix it up. Even though there was some hail damage to the top and back, the trailer was in decent shape. It underwent a cosmetic transformation. When it went on the road, it was a big hit. So the Nashes were hooked. However, their preference was the more rounded ?canned ham? style trailers so they sold the 1970 box version and began the hunt for an earlier model.

Since the completion of the 1962, a 1961 Shasta has joined the fleet. Richard was about to embark on a new home construction project so needed an onsite office. As luck would have it, he came upon a 16 foot Shasta (sans wings) for sale. So with a fresh coat of black and white paint, the trailer was retrofitted with a computer desk and drafting table complete with filing cabinets, refrigerator and microwave.

It is true that once people are enamored with vintage trailers, they can never own just one. Somehow a 1968 Serro Scotty has also made its way to the Nash residence. They are thinking of turning that into a gardening shed for the backyard. Or perhaps it could be a custom order to sell to another trailer junkie.

The bill was introduced by Representative Steve Martin, and it was offered in response to the statistic that shows that approximately 20 percent of all drivers in Oklahoma do not have adequate insurance coverage. When someone is injured in an Oklahoma car accident and the at-fault driver does not have adequate coverage, it leaves few options for the recovery of damages.

It is hoped that if this bill passes that more motorists in Oklahoma would obtain auto insurance coverage, and it would also allow those who have been injured in Oklahoma auto accidents to pursue a recovery of damages from the at-fault driver?s coverage as opposed to attempting to recover compensation from that driver?s own uninsured/under-insured motorist coverage.

The new model applies singular balance to the priorities of a new era, preserving the classic 911 lines, yet revisiting every inch for advances in power and fuel economy. While enthusiasts will recognize the 2012 911 Carrera at a glance, 90 percent of its components are either new or fundamentally revised.

Its sleek and stretched silhouette, pulse-pounding contours and precisely designed features signal its rich heritage from every viewing angle. Longer, lower, wider, 100 lbs. lighter, faster and more efficient than previous models, the 911 is the perfect blend of modern design, intelligent engineering and performance DNA.

In addition to aesthetic improvements, both new models offer significant performance enhancements. The 2012 911 Carrera is equipped with a new, 350-horsepower, 3.4-liter boxer engine, while the Carrera S features a 400-horsepower, 3.8-liter boxer engine?a 15hp improvement versus its predecessor. The 911 Carrera with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) accelerates from zero to 60 in 4.4 seconds, while the Carrera S sprints from zero to 60 in a mere 4.1 seconds. That time is reduced even further to 3.9 seconds when equipped with the Sports Chrono Package Plus. Top track speeds for the 911 Carrera and Carrera S are 179 and 188 mph, respectively.

As with every generation, the new 911 Carrera continues to raise the bar in both performance and efficiency. This is achieved through systems such as the Automatic Start/Stop function, engine and transmission thermal management, electrical system recuperation, the world?s first seven-speed manual transmission and?in conjunction with PDK?the ability to ?sail? or coast. The new electro-mechanical power steering offers the typical Porsche precision and helps to increase efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

The new 911 Carrera Coupe will have a base MSRP of $ 82,100, and the 911 Carrera S Coupe will start at $ 96,400 (excluding destination fees).

Deloitte: Vouchers Popular Among Consumers Looking to Dine Out

Nearly two-thirds of consumers from across the UK use a voucher for quick service and casual dining, while 48% will use a voucher in a bar or pub and 50% in a fine dining establishment. This according to findings from the latest Taste of the Nation survey conducted by Deloitte and BDRC Continental.

Among 18-34 year olds, the largest market for eating out, 67% use vouchers compared to 58% of 35-54 year olds and 51% of those over 55 years. Overall, the survey found over half of consumers or 59% have used a special offer voucher when eating out.

Ernst & Young: Moderate Growth Expected for Global Auto Industry in 2012

Moderate growth is forecast for the global automotive market in 2012 in keeping with the industry?s limited expansion of around three percent in 2011. Acknowledging that 2011 was another challenging year for the industry, Jeff Henning, Global Automotive Markets Leader for Ernst & Young, noted growing confidence among automotive executives was highlighted in the firm?s Automotive Capital Confidence Barometer released late last year. Accenture: FBI Awards IT Support Services Contract

Accenture Federal Services has been awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement and four task orders from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to install an enterprise resource planning system to support the FBI?s Human Resources Information System. The BPA was awarded under the General Services Administration IT schedule that provides technology support services to the FBI. PwC: Survey Reveals Tough Year for Canadian IPO Market in 2011

The Canadian market for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) reached only $ 2 billion for 2011, its third lowest total in a decade, according to the annual PwC review of IPO activity.

Despite a mid-year growth spurt, 2011 saw the total number and value of IPOs decline compared to the previous year. The 61 new issues on all Canadian exchanges in 2011 generated just over $ 2 billion compared to 73 IPOs worth more than $ 5.5 billion in 2010.

A bill being considered by Indiana lawmakers that would require insurers to notify state transportation officials when they cancel private auto policies could make it more difficult for residents to skirt the state?s mandatory coverage requirements, according to Online Auto Insurance (OAI).

The proposed legislation should be of interest to Hoosier State residents who are having difficulty keeping up with payments on their policies or are planning on buying a no down payment auto insurance policy in order to register a vehicle and then canceling it once registration is in place.

Like most states, Indiana requires that motorists purchase a minimum amount of liability insurance to pay for any damages they may cause behind the wheel. State law mandates that drivers carry enough coverage to pay for up to $ 25,000 in bodily injury to one person, as much as $ 50,000 per accident and up to $ 10,000 in property damage.

A bill currently before a state Senate committee would require that insurers send cancellation notices within 10 business days to policyholders whose coverage is being cut off and to the state Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

The recipients of these notices would then have 20 days to inform the bureau of how they intend to satisfy the state?s financial responsibility requirements going forward.

State officials would be allowed to suspend the vehicle registrations of drivers who get such notices and do not respond to the bureau within 20 days.

With the economy still sluggish, many people have had a hard time keeping up with monthly premiums. But OAI points out that, while payments can be expensive, the cost of flouting state coverage requirements can be far greater.

OAI advises consumers in Indiana and other states to make sure they have coverage in place before they get behind the wheel.

A fitness trainer was injured in an elevator accident in his luxury Midtown West apartment building, according to the New York Post (1/6/2012).

In a lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Corey Hill says an elevator he was in went into a free fall before stopping abruptly. Allegedly, Hill suffered neck and back injuries in the New York elevator accident and spent approximately two weeks in the hospital. AAA recently announced that it?s predicting nearly 92 million Americans will set out on road trips over 50 miles to get to year-end holiday destinations this year, a fact that should prompt drivers to show extra caution while on the road, according to Online Auto Insurance.

New York scaffolding got a makeover. According to The New York Times, a new style of building shed called the ?Urban Umbrella? was installed in front of 100 Broadway, an office building in Manhattan.

The new design is not legally required, but The New York Times reports it is not much more expensive than the usual New York construction accident inhibiting scaffolding.

An attack in a Jewish neighborhood of Brooklyn is being investigated as a New York hate crime by the New York Police Department’s Hate Crimes Task Force, reported NY1 on November 12.

Vandals set three cars ablaze in Midwood on November 11. A sidewalk and park benches nearby also were spray-painted with anti-Semitic graffiti, including Nazi swastikas. “KKK” was painted on a van, according to the New York Daily News. (11/11)

The incident is among a number of other recent hate crimes in New York City targeting Jews. Two other swastikas were found in Brooklyn, reported the New York Daily News. One was etched into the lobby door of a building and another was painted on a parking meter. Also, reported the NYDN, a subway sign was defaced and a Jewish man recalled being ?threatened by two hate-spewing men? in Midwood.

Earlier this month, six swastikas were painted on a synagogue and two library branches in Queens, reported the Queens Tribune. (11/10)

Recently, the Anti-Defamation League released a report of anti-Semitism statistics for New York City and New York State. In 2010, the ADL counted 133 anti-Semitic incidents citywide. This was one more recorded incident than the year before.

In New York City, the most anti-Semitic incidents were reported in Brooklyn, which had 53. Manhattan was next with 52, according to the ADL.

Infinity Insurance kicked off the season of giving as they hosted a celebration at La Progresiva Presbyterian School in Miami, Fl. on Tuesday, to promote bilingual literacy and announce their $ 1 million contribution to the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program. An independent study produced by Mindmetre Research indicates that while Microsoft SharePoint is emerging as the industry standard for content management the most effective SharePoint-based solutions tend to combine the platform?s powerful capabilities with specialist applications that can improve the end-user experience and fill gaps in functionality.

‘Getting the Point’, the title of the research study recently issued by leading consumer and business analysts MindMetre, examines awareness among managers and directors about Microsoft SharePoint and its use as a building block for information management and enterprise search.

Among more than 2,000 managers and directors surveyed across the US, UK, Germany and France, overall awareness of SharePoint is shown to be strong, with significant awareness of the platform and its uses established among managers and directors, even though few of those surveyed are IT professionals.

This research comes on the heels of another study from Smartlogic and MindMetre showing that enterprise search ? the process for quickly finding accurate information from within a company when it is needed ? is falling far short of expectations. That report, which also canvassed managers and directors in the US, UK, Germany and France, revealed that 52% of the respondents said they cannot find the information they need within what most define as an acceptable amount of time using their own organisation?s search facility. 65% defined a ?good search? as taking less than two minutes, but only 48% reported being able to achieve that result in their own organisation.

The more recent findings also reveal that industries with the highest awareness of SharePoint and its implementation include hi-tech and IT, media and publishing, telecoms and ISP, banking, and utilities. Sectors in which knowledge of the application and its implementation could be improved include aerospace, healthcare, education, government, and extraction industries such as mining and oil and gas.

Michigan Auto Law is kicking off a three-week campaign sweepstakes today against the dangers of texting while driving ? and the winner will receive a $ 1,032 check.

People who text and drive are 23 times more likely to be in a car accident, according to a study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, said Steven M. Gursten, head of Farmington Hills-based Michigan Auto Law, the state?s largest auto accident law firm

Why a $ 1,032 prize? According to the Insurance Institute of Michigan?s December 2010 data, the average auto insurance premium in Michigan is $ 1,032.02. The winner can use the money however he or she wishes, Gursten said, but he hopes winner will use it to buy the right kind of auto insurance.

“Part of this campaign also centers on our hope to inform drivers about just how many people are uninsured on our roads today. About 50 percent of Detroit drivers, for example, are driving without any auto insurance. And about 19 percent of all Michigan drivers have no auto insurance,” Gursten said, referencing published reports such as the Detroit Legal News and a news release by the Insurance Research Council.

Gursten frequently writes and lectures on distracted driving, and is available for comment.

“People are not properly protected. We?re hoping this campaign lets us spread awareness about just how dangerous texting while driving is, while also helping educate the public about the proper auto insurance they should be buying,” Gursten added. “We have drivers who are texting, talking on the phone, even surfing the Internet. Meanwhile, in some cities we have up to 50 percent of drivers riding with no insurance to protect them in case of a serious car accident. It’s the perfect storm.”
